You know if I had found a creature like this under the tree, I would be thrilled. But then again, I have always I known I was strange. This is actually one of a series of creatures I have done in watercolor. They are all part if an idea I had a year ago after a long train ride through central Pennsylvania. I couldn't help but imagine that hidden in all those abandoned factories were a collection of creatures specially evolved to survive in a modern world.

   As the idea evolved I saw the story from the perspective of a Dr. Goodspeed, an older biologist, who is accidently stranded in central PA and stumbles upon these creatures while searching for shelter. And it all unfolds from there. It is really fun to paint these creatures and in some way I almost wish they were actually out there. It is a weird form of optimism that under the failure of the modern US industry may be a whole new way of life.
